Barcode Scanners - A barcode scanner or reader is basically an electronic machine that helps in reading the printed barcodes. It contains a lens, light source, along with photo conductor that translates optical impulses into the electrical ones. In addition, almost all the barcode scanners have decoder circuitry studying barcode’s image or data given by photo conductor and further transferring barcode’s content to scanner’s output area. There are two important barcode scanners – laser barcode scanner and image-based barcode scanner. 

A Laser barcode scanner is more costly as compared to the image-based scanners. There are no internal movable parts in image-based barcode scanners and so they are more opposed to knocks and drops while laser barcode scanners have internal movable parts. An image-based barcode scanner has scanning distance of 4-10 inches if compared with laser barcode scanners. Moreover a laser scanner has more chances of deterioration because of their lenses.
